Asian Festival Celebrates its 20th Year in Columbus, OH

2014 marks the 20th year of the Asian Festival in Columbus. This annual event is held at Franklin Park on Memorial Day weekend, with the festivities on Saturday and Sunday at the park and a Dragon Boat Race on Monday at the Scioto River in downtown Columbus. Attendance at the festival has averaged more than 100,000 visitors and continues to grow, thanks to the volunteerism of many people representing various Asian subgroups and many others from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Because of its tremendous success, the festival has received strong support from state, city, corporate and community partners every year since its beginning in 1995. The festival also is recognized as one of the major special events in central Ohio.

The Asian Festival promotes the importance of cultural diversity in building a vibrant, prosperous and healthy community through the following:

  • Showcasing our cultural heritage
  • Advocating the importance of lifelong learning and education
  • Providing a fun and entertaining experience
  • Nurturing community collaboration and strong relationships
  • Fostering a healthy lifestyle and quality of life
  • Serving with integrity

The Asian Festival is represented by numerous Asian and southeast Asian countries, as shown in the map below.
